We’ve been to goat yoga, and it’s safe to say it’s more about the goats than the yoga.
In any case, if doing a plank pose with a cute farm animal on your back is your idea of a good time, you’re in luck.
Equifruit, a Quebec-based produce importer, and Sprouts Farmers Market are teaming up to bring two free goat yoga sessions to two locations around the Valley.
Sessions will run from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 18, at 12415 N. Tatum Blvd., and Saturday, April 19, at 23269 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale. The public is invited to stop by and do a downward dog or two (and of course, pet the goats).
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $16,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
Sessions are run by local outfit Arizona Goat Yoga, which may in fact be the inventor of the goat yoga trend. AGY is owned by friends April Gould, a goat farmer, retired professional waterskier and “American Ninja Warrior” competitor; and Sarah Williams, a yoga, Pilates and CrossFit instructor and synchronized swimming competitor.
In 2015, the duo conceptualized pairing Gould’s goats with Williams’ fitness expertise, and the rest is history.
Why free goat yoga, and why a banana company?
Equifruit bananas, which are certified by Fairtrade International, will now be available at Sprouts locations, signifying their entry in the Arizona market
“Equifruit Fairtrade bananas are the G.O.A.T of the produce aisle (Greatest Of All Time)!” Jennie Coleman, president and co-owner of Equifruit, said in the announcement “That’s why we’ve partnered with Arizona Goat Yoga, for a truly GOAT-ed level experience for Sprouts shoppers. … By choosing Equifruit Fairtrade bananas, shoppers are contributing to a fairer banana industry and helping keep exploitation out of our food supply chains.”
Yoga mats will be provided by Equifruit, so guests need only bring comfortable clothing and a camera or cellphone to capture all the goat yoga cuteness.
