One of Phoenix New Times’ Top 100 restaurants is opening a second location. The hip smash burger bar Bad Jimmy’s is set to open in Scottsdale on Thursday.
The new location takes over the former home of Starlite BBQ off Indian School and Miller roads.
It’s the first of two new outposts anticipated to arrive in the Valley this year, which chef and owner James Piazza shared in February. A third Bad Jimmy’s is in the works in uptown Phoenix, replacing the former Cock N’ Tails on Seventh Street just north of Bethany Home Road. That location is anticipated to open later this year.

James Piazza started Bad Jimmy’s as a pop-up which evolved into a brick-and-mortar restaurant in downtown Phoenix. He’ll open a Scottsdale location on Thursday.

Piazza launched Bad Jimmy’s as a pop-up, which turned into a downtown brick-and-mortar location with a retro diner aesthetic in 2023.
Bad Jimmy’s serves a taut menu of lacy, flat-top griddled burgers, waffle fries and a riff on a wedge salad. The restaurant also has a regular rotation of specials, including weekly wings.
Save room for a cup of twirly soft serve finished with a flourish of salt and olive oil. Drink options include root beer and Shirley Temples along with a full bar that serves Miller High Life, natural wines and classic cocktails.
The same menu and vibe are coming to Scottsdale. Or, to quote a story posted to the Bad Jimmy’s Instagram, showing the first few seconds of a Body Count video, “There goes the neighborhood.”
