MAGA wacko Laura Loomer wants Trump to fire Stephen Richer’s wife

The Trump-lovin’ conspiracy theorist is on the warpath to rid the federal government of anyone not sufficiently MAGA.

One of Arizona’s kookiest exports, conspiracy theorist and Donald Trump ally Laura Loomer, is making it her own personal mission to purge the Trump administration of anyone she sees as not sufficiently loyal and subservient to the president. It’s made her an influential figure in Trump’s increasingly authoritarian regime.

And now, the 32-year-old Tucson native has applied her Trump suck-up purity test to the wife of Stephen Richer, a prominent Republican critic of Trump’s election denialism and the former Maricopa County Recorder.

On Friday morning, Loomer tweeted a long-winded complaint about Lindsay Short, whom Loomer identified as working for the U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona. Because of Short’s association with Richer and because of an honor given to her years ago by a pro-immigration group, Loomer wants Short shitcanned.

It’s unclear if Short still works for the U.S. Attorney’s office in Phoenix, which is helmed by interim U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine. Short was listed as an assistant U.S. attorney in an agency press release in March, but she does not appear on an office organizational chart that is dated July 2025. Esther Winne, an executive assistant at the office, did not respond to New Times’ request to confirm Short’s employment.

If she’s there, though, Loomer wants her gone. The once-fringe right-wing nutjob questioned why Short is working for the federal government if she isn’t a dyed-in-the-wool MAGA creature. In a tweet, she noted that Short did pro bono legal work for The Florence Project, a nonprofit that provides legal and social services to immigrants in detention and facing deportation, back in 2019.

“This group has consistently opposed the America-first immigration policies championed by President Donald Trump, & has instead promoted open-border initiatives that undermine US national security,” Loomer wrote. “Lindsay Short should be FIRED from the Trump DOJ due to a massive conflict of interest & her advocacy for illegal aliens as an officer of the court.”

If Short is still employed by the office, it’s not clear that she’s even working on immigration matters. The March press release that mentioned her touted her role in prosecuting a Scottsdale man for wire fraud as part of a sham cannabis investment fund scheme. It’s also false that The Florence Project has promoted “open-border initiatives.” In reality, the organization has denounced the Trump administration for trying to shut down the asylum system and criticized the president’s authoritarian maneuvers to overhaul immigration protocol.

Based on Loomer’s diatribe, Short’s bigger sin is being married to Richer, a Republican who frequently fact-checked lies and inaccurate statements about Arizona’s elections that were and are propagated by Loomer, Trump, failed Senate candidate Kari Lake and Elon Musk. His willingness to stand up to liars is what cost him his job — last summer, he lost a primary challenge to MAGA acolyte Justin Heap, the current county recorder.

Loomer’s long attack on Richer noted that he sued Lake for defamation — the two settled for an unknown amount after Lake accepted default judgment against her in the case — which Loomer cast as a sign of disloyalty to the far-right MAGA movement.

“Richer, notably, certified the fraudulent 2022 Arizona gubernatorial election, & then viciously attacked @KariLake, a staunch advocate for secure borders & election integrity,” Loomer’s tweet read.

As evidence, Loomer included a screenshot of an article from the aggregation slop site bitsanddeets.com that includes a photo of Richer and Short together. Loomer also included a screenshot of Short’s profile page on the State Bar of Arizona website, which notably shows no disciplinary action on her record.

Reached by New Times, Richer pointed out several inaccuracies in Loomer’s missive. He did not deny that Short works for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“Only briefly looked at it,” Richer wrote. “Something about how we got married in 2020 (inaccurate), a picture of our supposed wedding (it wasn’t), and something about how I certified the 2022 election (I didn’t).”

Indeed, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors certifies elections, not the county recorder.

It remains to be seen whether Loomer’s rant will be enough to cost Short her job, though her crusade has claimed the positions of many other non-political federal employees who have had the misfortune of winding up in her crosshairs.

Loomer could not be reached for comment.
