A possible extension of the Valley Metro light rail that would extend through Mesa probably will get federal funding, according to Mesa Mayor Scott Smith. Smith presented the project to officials in Washington D.C. last week and claims that federal officials are all but sold on helping fund the project...Motorcycles in Arizona may no longer be subject to state smog tests. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality claim that testing motorcycles is more trouble than it's worth because less than one percent of the bikes fail. Testing them, officials say, doesn't significantly improve air quality...The Arizona Republic claims that Arizona may be one of the first in line to receive the largest portion of a federal grant to fund public education. The Obama administration is set to hand out nearly $4 billion to about 20 states for education, and Governor Jan Brewer and state businesses have put together a coalition to make sure that at least $250 million of the grant come to Arizona...A mentally ill Mesa man was found safe after disappearing from a family shopping trip Saturday afternoon. disappeared from a Mesa shopping mall, while shopping with his family. The family reported him missing, but luckily he was found about eight hours later at a Quik Trip in Mesa...Park police found the body of a man about 200 feet below the South Rim of the Grand Canyon Saturday. The man, whose name has not been released, was visiting the canyon with his family, when park rangers began getting calls from other park visitors saying they had seen a body...An Arizona man was found dead on a remote road in Oregon. Police in Sutherlin say the 71-year-old Gold Canyon man left his Arizona house Wednesday night to visit family in Seattle, Washington. When the man never arrived, family called police, who located him using the GPS system in his car. No foul play is suspected.
