After its Chandler location shuttered in 2024, the brewery's downtown Phoenix taproom has now closed as well.

In July 2023, Mexico-based Buqui Bichi Brewing took a major leap, opening its first location in the United States. The brewpub made its debut in Chandler, offering imported beer and a Mexican-fusion food menu.

In January 2024, the company expanded its Arizona footprint and opened a second location in downtown Phoenix.

But now, the brewery no longer has any locations in Arizona or the U.S. As of May 1, the downtown Phoenix taproom is closed.

Buqui Bichi is based in Hermosillo, Mexico. Brothers Luis and Ramon Osuna launched the company in 2016, with a dream to bring craft beer styles they'd sampled in the U.S. back home.

In an effort to bring the brewery full circle and open its first location in the U.S., the brothers partnered with Martin Hurtado, co-owner of Miel de Agave in downtown Phoenix and El Taco Santo in Ahwatukee. Together, they opened the taproom and restaurant in Chandler, serving 12 beers on tap and a selection of tacos, sopes, pizza and hamburgers.

But after 15 months, that location closed in October 2024. The downtown Phoenix location remained open at that time, continuing to pour pints for craft beer fans and curious visitors. On May 1, that location said goodbye as well.

A "Notice of Business Closure" has been posted to the door of the taproom by the Maricopa County Environmental Services Department.

"These premises, formerly occupied by Buqui Bichi Downtown LLC have closed because the establishment has relocated or is no longer in operation," the notice says. It goes on to explain that "the premises MAY NOT be re-opened for such uses without first obtaining a new permit."

The phone at the downtown location has also been disconnected. The Buqui Bichi website has not been updated, and still lists both the Chandler and downtown Phoenix locations. Fans of the brewery's beers can find cans in local craft beer shops around the Valley.
