Customers shared confusion on social media about the restaurant's posted summer hours conflicting with locked doors. The restaurant's owners replied in the comments, confirming that The Drunk Munk has permanently shuttered.
The Drunk Munk opened on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Stetson Drive in 2019. It replaced the famed Old Town spot Cowboy Ciao, which served customers there for over two decades.
The Drunk Munk quickly became known for its Polynesian cuisine, Pu Pu platter, sushi and a long list of tropical cocktails. The drinks ranged from classic tiki tipples such as the Dark & Stormy and Mai Tai to a selection of frozen cocktails, large format "Party People" cocktails which served a crowd and stacked bloody marys, including one topped with three pieces of a California roll and two shrimp.

The Drunk Munk opened in 2019, replacing the former Cowboy Ciao, a Valley institution for 21 years.

The restaurant was founded by industry vets Greg Donnally, Andrew Nam and Scott Hane. Donnally formerly owned Drift Lounge, a retro tiki bar across Scottsdale Road on Stetson Drive and 75th Avenue that closed in 2010. The Drunk Munk took some inspiration from the former space, including some of its menu items. The Drunk Munk also paid homage to the former tenant of its home, serving Cowboy Ciao's famous Stetson Chopped Salad.
The owners were also part of Geisha A Go Go, a neighboring Old Town restaurant and bar that offered sushi, private karaoke rooms and extended happy hours. That spot shuttered after 17 years in June 2024. When it closed, the owners noted that the property was soon to be redeveloped. Since then, country bar Not My First Rodeo has opened.
As for the famous and prominent location on Sixth and Stetson, the future remains to be seen.
