Sadly, April was a big month for restaurant closings in Phoenix. Some long-term spots served their last customers, including a retro Taco Bell from another era. Other very new spots shuttered after just a few months in business. Here are all of the recent closings in the Valley.

Sorso Wine Room
Scottsdale wine bar and restaurant Sorso Wine Room closed after just over 10 years in late April. The modern space was known for its wide wine list with 150 selections. It also sold bruschetta, flatbreads, sandwiches and other snacks perfect for pairing with a glass of wine.

Copper & Sage and Blue Stave
On Camelback Road, a couple of connected concepts have quietly closed. Copper & Sage was a restaurant serving Southern-inspired food in one of the two small brick buildings that were the longtime home of SunUp Brewing. Next door, customers could stop by before or after dinner for a cocktail at the Blue Stave bar. Without any announcement or explanation, both the bar and the restaurant have closed. A second Copper & Stage location in Goodyear remains open.

The Stir Coffee Bar and Gin & Reel
Another dual concept, The Stir Coffee Bar and Gin & Reel, has closed. The coffee shop and speakeasy-style bar were located on High Street with the cafe facing the street, inviting customers in for specialty coffees, sandwiches, and ice cream. When customers kept walking through the space to a blue-painted phone booth, they could enter Gin & Reel, a craft cocktail bar in the back. Both concepts closed their doors in early April.

Cheese 'N Stuff
Located on Central Avenue just north of Camelback Road, Cheese 'N Stuff has served customers in uptown Phoenix since 1949. It started out as a cheese shop before adding the "stuff" which included deli meats and a sandwich menu. Since 1972, it has been run by three generations of the Zawatski family. For now, Cheese 'N Stuff served its final sandwiches on April 30. Talks of new ownership are in the works, so stay tuned for a potential return in the future.

Being Bar
The non-alcoholic Being Bar closed its doors after just over six months in north Phoenix. Owner Josh Praus opened the bar hoping to currate a space for the community to hang out without needing alcohol. The menu included drinks made with non-alcoholic spirits along with functional mushrooms and other adaptogenic ingredients.

The space at the corner of Central Avenue and Roosevelt Street has seen yet another spot close its doors. Moon Pie Bar & Patio opened in March 2024, replacing Teddy's Preserve. It served fun, colorful cocktails along with thin, square-cut Chicago-style tavern pizza inside the funky bar and outside on a large garden-style patio. In a post shared on Instagram, Moon Pie's owners announced the last day was April 11.

Walter Station Brewery
Located just east of downtown Phoenix, Walter Station Brewery was a destination for craft beer fans and soccer aficionados alike. But at the end of April, the firehouse-turned-taproom served its last pints. The company has shifted its focus entirely to production. So customers will still be able to find Walter Station beers in cans. But the taproom and restaurant on Washington Street is now closed.

The Scottsdale Taco Bell was store No. 31. It was the last in Arizona and one of less than 10 in the U.S. with Mission-style architecture.

Taco Bell
Typically, Taco Bell locations opening and closing don't make the news. But in April, Scottsdale's retro Taco Bell location served its final customers. It was the only remaining Mission-style Taco Bell in Arizona and one of less than 10 nationwide. Its tiny three-table dining room, colorful patio and tight drive-thru lane served customers for nearly 60 years. As it shut down, a new, shiny, grey Taco Bell opened across the street.

Chauncey Social
In north Scottsdale, Chauncey Social was part restaurant, part day club, all vibe. But on April 1, the indoor-outdoor concept closed its doors. It was part of Evening Entertainment Group, the company behind Bottled Blonde, Backyard, Casa Amigos, RnR Gastropub and more.

Pescado Borracho, the sister concept to Valley seafood restaurant High Tide, has closed its only location. The Gilbert restaurant served a menu of Mexican-inspired seafood dishes including shrimp tacos, whole fried fish, crispy octopus and more. It served its final customers on April 27. High Tide's two Valley locations remain open in Gilbert and Chandler.

Eat Up Drive In
The Arcadia area restaurant Eat Up Drive In is "closed for the foreseeable future," the restaurant announced following a large fire. On April 27, flames engulfed the attic and set smoke billowing into the air. No one was hurt and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The restaurant is closed indefinitely.
