There was much activity during the monthly First Friday celebration in downtown Phoenix on Friday, December 5, and not all of it was related to the art that was on display inside galleries and at outdoor vendor booths. A massive protest and march was staged along Roosevelt Row and Seventh Street local demonstrators and residents in response to the recent police-involved deaths Rumain Brisbon in Phoenix, Eric Garner in New York, and Michael Brown in Missouri. Officers from the Phoenix Police Department were dispatched in riot gear to contain the protesters, including blocking one end of Roosevelt Street although no arrests were made.
