David Garcia wants to become Arizona's next Superintendent of Public Instruction.
And if he beats his challenger, Republican Diane Douglas, Garcia would be the first Latino elected to statewide office in about four decades.
The Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hopes that happens. The business association is giving its support to Garcia, a U.S Army veteran and former Associate Superintendent of Public Instruction for Standards and Accountability.

Garcia is also an associate professor in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University.
His breadth of experience is what prompted the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to step into the political arena and make the organization first-ever endorsement of a candidate.
Douglas, on the other hand, is running to derail Common Core, which she defines as "Obama's invasion of our children's education."
And, as she notes on her website, that's why she's been studying "the American education system and the federal government's ever increasing intrusion into our local control since the early 1990s," and, as she writes on her website: She did it on her own, not "through a college of "education" in order to add letters after my name."
Yeah, she put quote marks around "education."
That's just what Arizona needs -- a Superintendent who views a college education as nothing more than a path to vanity.
She says that if elected, she will "work with our Republican legislators to protect our children, and their families, from the unconstitutional invasion of their privacy through massive federally mandated data collection."
Get out your tinfoil hats, folks.
Garcia has also been endorsed by the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
