Did anyone hear that chef Victor Casanova left Il Terrazzo at the Phoenician?

It happened under the radar -- Casanova's now in Los Angeles, opening Culina at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. And in his wake, the restaurant's undergone a transformation from haute Italian eatery to more of an American comfort food spot. (The restaurant started out as an American restaurant called The Terrace, then switched to Il Terrazzo in 2008.)

Interestingly, they're keeping the name Il Terrazzo, even though chef de cuisine Kyle Lipetzky has incorporated such down-home dishes as mac 'n cheese, a fish 'n chips sandwich, and a Kobe burger.

Granted, some Italian items remain, including orechiette, lasagna, caprese salad, an antipasto plate, and imported Italian cheeses. Check out the menu: Il Terrazzo menu

Lipetzky has been with the Phoenician since 2005, first as a sous chef at The Terrace, and later as a sous chef at Mary Elaine's. He then returned to Il Terrazzo for its launch.
