You could hardly find a seat at the Valley Metro Light Rail on Thursday, August 26, 2018, as teachers began gathering for their #RedForEd march. Classrooms were empty and most public schools statewide were closed on the first day of Arizona's teacher walkout for better pay and increased school funding. By the time the marchers reached the Capitol, Phoenix police estimated that at least 50,000 supporters had joined the rally. But the day ended early, with five speakers left to go, after organizers felt the weather was getting to dangerous for the crowd.
