Female Bonding

When Debbie Carrick of Arizona Women's Theatre Company put out a call to female playwrights, she may have had that Pink Floyd album title Is There Anybody Out There? rolling through her head. "We knew women playwrights were out there, but we didn't know where they were exactly,” says Carrick, organizer of the second annual Pandora Festival, which features staged readings of short plays and full-length productions written by female writers. This year's juried selection process whittled down an impressive 65 entries to 20. One of our favorites, Babe: An Olympic Musical, is about the life of Olympic athlete and groundbreaking sports all-star Babe Didrikson Zaharias.
