Styles is a longtime Phoenix muralist and graffiti artist whose work can be seen both around the Valley and farther afield. In 2022, he and his father, Such Styles, shared an exhibition of work at Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum. More recently, he participated in the large group exhibition "All In" at Danelle Plaza in Tempe in April, and he held the eighth iteration of his Sticker Shogun street arts festival and sticker expo in Mesa in December.
Styles' design, which is anchored by the letters PHX and a grinning sun, is a collage-style piece that also incorporates a copy of the paper, a rattlesnake, cactuses and one of New Times' iconic red circulation boxes.
It isn't the artist's first collaboration with a local organization; to name a few, he's created shirts for the city of Tempe's Tempe Jam, and a hip-hop-themed piece of his is on shirts in the Musical Instrument Museum gift shop.
Still, Styles says he was excited to be involved with the New Times project, as he's a longtime reader.
"I love the New Times," he says. "I'd be super-stoked to do more."
And he's looking forward to seeing the sweatshirts around town.
"If I see it, it’s going to feel awesome. And if anyone wants to devalue their shirt, I’ll even sign it,” he jokes.

The Champ Styles-designed sweatshirt comes in black or white and crewneck or hoodie style.

Phoenix New Times' funding comes from print and digital advertising, our full-service digital marketing agency, V Digital Services, and contributions from readers through our membership program. We currently have an editorial staff of 10, and in 2024, we raised enough funds through our membership program to pay for one staff writer's salary. Our online content never has a paywall, keeping it free and accessible for all. We also continue to distribute 32,000 print papers each week around the city – free for anyone to grab from a New Times bin.
