Revel Surf, a 4.5-acre water park at Mesa’s Cannon Beach mixed-use development, opened to the public on Monday. The $45 million facility, located near Power and Warner roads, features two state-of-the-art wave pools designed by professional surfers.
Other attractions and amenities at Revel Surf include white sand beaches, four cliff-diving platforms, a skate park, a tide pool, luxury cabanas and a retail shop.
Adam Saks, COO of Revel Surf and Cannon Beach, says the park offers an authentic ocean-like surfing experience for all ages and skill levels.
“Anyone will be able to grab a board and ride the waves at Revel Surf,” he says. “We want to put Mesa, Arizona, on the worldwide surf map.”
By surfers, for surfers
Saks says Revel utilizes unique cutting-edge wave technology in its pools created by surfers, for surfers. Revel’s 2.2-acre surfing lagoon, the park's centerpiece, will produce waves in various shapes and sizes. Meanwhile, the 650,000-gallon Unity Surf Pool will generate a stationary surfing wave, which Saks says is aimed toward beginning surfers who want to get their feet wet.“We have two different settings for the Unity Surf Pool and it's a great learning device,” Saks says. “It's it's really user-friendly for people who have never surfed before.”
Cannon Beach and Revel Surf are the brainchild of co-owner Cole Cannon, an Arizona attorney, real estate developer, and lifelong surfer.
Saks says that Cannon collaborated with professional surfers Shane Beschen and Matt Gunn, a co-owner of Phoenix-based wave pool manufacturer SwellMFG, to design the park’s facilities.
“Matt is a Southern California guy that grew up surfing, landed in Arizona and builds wave pools,” Saks says. “Cole Cannon is also a surfer in his own right. So they sort of formed up and said, ‘We have everything here to create something amazing.’”
It just took a little longer than they originally planned.
Cannon Beach and Revel Surf originally broke ground in 2021, but supply chain issues caused a two-year delay in opening the park.
“It's been several years in the making of a very complex build,” Saks says. “A surf park is a very unique, very different animal and there were a lot of components to deal with.”
Other attractions at Revel Surf and Cannon Beach
In addition to its pair of wave pools, Revel Surf features other attractions geared towards fun in the sun. There are four cliff-diving platforms ranging from 5 to 26 feet above a 16-foot-deep pool. A skate park, designed by Phoenix-based PUSH Parks, provides the perfect space for riders to perform tricks or cruise at their own pace.
“It’s a great little track (that’s) nice for a warm-up before your surf or just some fun while you're hanging out,” Saks says.
Meanwhile, 14 luxury cabanas, a large tide pool and a beach area filled with white sand from Florida are also available.
Revel Surf is the anchor tenant at Cannon Beach, a 37-acre mixed-use complex surrounding the park that features an array of eateries, bars and retailers.
Saks says more attractions are planned for Cannon Beach, including a KTR Action Sports Playground set to open next year and a Cloud 7 Family Entertainment Center.
“So we have a lot of plans that will be building here for the next few years as we bring everything together,” Saks says.
