Moving Set

Broadly speaking, Pablo Francisco is a stand-up comedian, but that's somewhat misleading. The Tucson native's line of work doesn't seem to involve standing as much as it does flailing and writhing. And rarely does Mr. Francisco actually tell a joke. Instead, the 39-year-old weaves numerous characters and impersonations into a frenetic and sometimes cacophonic stream of consciousness that typically has the comic soaked in sweat mere minutes into his routine.

But that unrelenting fervor, which recalls the late Sam Kinison, has garnered Francisco a great deal of international acclaim. Fortunately, Phoenicians who are fond of the comic won't have to go sans Francisco much longer. Pablo kicks of the first of a six-night stand at 8 p.m. Thursday, January 2, at Stand Up Live, 50 West Jefferson Street. Tickets start at $28. Shows are 18-and-up, and there's a two-drink minimum. Visit or call 480-719-6100 for details.

Thu., Jan. 2, 8 p.m.; Fri., Jan. 3, 7:30 & 10 p.m.; Sat., Jan. 4, 7 & 10 p.m.; Sun., Jan. 5, 7 p.m., 2014
