Just as the temperature rises, a new indoor gaming facility is arriving in Phoenix to keep folks cool and entertained.
Activate is scheduled to open a 12,000-square-foot space later this month at 4848 E. Cactus Road, #900. (For those keeping track, it's behind the Olive Garden at Cactus and Paradise Village Parkway, near the new PV development.)
Though it's the first Arizona location, Activate has been around since 2017 and has more than 40 locations in four countries, including the U.S., the U.K., Canada and the United Arab Emirates.
Activate went viral on TikTok for its Mega Grid attraction, in which guests stand in a room full of 500 touch-sensitive LED tiles and light-up wall buttons. As the floor tiles come to life, the objective is to step on or avoid certain ones to complete the level.
But that's hardly the only thing to do at Activate.
Though the final list of what will be available in Phoenix hasn't been released, other Activate locations offer high-tech versions of classic fun such as dodgeball, laser tag, basketball and hide-and-seek.
“We’re excited to introduce a completely new kind of entertainment to Arizona — one that fuses cutting-edge technology with physical gameplay to create an immersive experience unlike anything else in the state,” Adam Schmidt, co-founder and CEO of Activate, said in a press release. “Scottsdale is the perfect launchpad for Activate’s expansion in the state, and we can’t wait to see how Arizonans respond to this bold new way to play.”
Activate is open to players 6 years old and up. Customers pay for a 75-minute block of time rather than for individual games. Phoenix's prices have not been released, but a look at a Dallas location shows a fee of $26 to $30 per person for the 75 minutes.
