James and Jenny MacGregor’s extravagant Christmas lights and decorations at their north Phoenix home have brought holiday cheer to thousands in north Phoenix for over a decade.

This week, their display, Miracle on 34th Lane, will dazzle a far wide audience, courtesy of ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight.”

The MacGregor’s home, located near 35th Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road, will be showcased during the two-episode season finale of the holiday-themed reality competition show at 7 p.m. on Thursday night.

The popular show, which airs during the Christmas season, highlights elaborately and extravagantly decorated homes from across the U.S. and is broadcast locally on ABC15 Arizona.

Miracle on 34th Lane will be featured alongside three other homes known for their over-the-top holiday displays. Each will be evaluated by host Carter Oosterhouse or another judge, who will select a winner. At stake are a $50,000 cash prize and a golden trophy shaped like a giant Christmas light bulb.

If you’ve never seen Miracle on 34th Lane, it’s easy to see why the producers of “The Great Christmas Light Fight” chose to feature the home.

‘Its kind of grown into the madness it is today’

The MacGregor’s home is impossible to miss while driving along 35th Avenue. The vibrant glow of 80,000 bulbs lights up the night and is visible from blocks away.

The display features a festive array of decorations, including a miniature Ferris wheel, a carousel, a nativity scene, and a towering 20-foot mega-tree and dozens of plastic blow molds in the shape of holiday characters.

Meanwhile, the garage has been transformed into a mockup of a drive-in theatre where a bright red Porsche 944 filled with toys and owned by Santa is parked.

The MacGregor’s holiday display started small before exploding into a full-blown obsession. It began with James putting up a few simple strings of bulbs in 2014 and things grew from there.

These days, the entire family is involved with creating Miracle on 34th Lane each year, including the couple’s teenage daughter, Faith.

"We just started getting bigger and bigger and its kind of grown into the madness it is today,” James MacGregor told FOX-10 in 2022.

Why ‘Great Christmas Light Fight’ keeps turning to the Valley

Miracle on 34th Lane, which was filmed by “The Great Christmas Light Fight” producers last November, isn’t the first metro Phoenix home to make an appearance on the television show.

More than a dozen local displays have been highlighted on the program since it premiered in 2013.

Previous seasons of “The Great Christmas Light Fight” have highlighted festive displays from the Valley, including Gilbert’s Comstock Neighborhood (winners in 2015), Laveen’s Mel and Patti Tasker (winners in 2021), and Kyle and Sammy Pratt of Scottsdale (winners in 2022).

Scottsdale resident Chris Birkett, whose Winter Wonderland display won an episode in 2017, says local appearances on the show help put the Valley’s holiday decorating community on the map.

“Even if someone doesn’t win, it still makes us all look good,” Birkett says. “It helps show that we all know what we’re doing when it comes to decorating.”
