We’re just going to say it: The far reaches of the Valley can be lacking in top-quality watering holes. Fortunately for the denizens of Surprise, Irish Wolfhound Restaurant & Pub isn’t a good bar by edge-of-town standards; it’s a genuinely great place to eat, drink and be merry. It’s got all the necessary trappings of a proper Irish pub: Guinness signs and maps of the Emerald Isle dot the large space. The kitchen serves up fish and chips, corned beef and cabbage and on the weekends, a full Irish breakfast. But no Irish pub is complete without craic — a word that means fun and good cheer — and Irish Wolfhound’s got it in spades. Bartenders greet regulars by name, strangers become friends over pints and the event calendar is packed with live music, karaoke and trivia nights.
