UnderTow
These days, you can’t throw a ring light without hitting some kind of immersive experience around town. But when tiki bar UnderTow opened in 2016, there wasn’t anything like it in the Valley. The decor that turned the space into the cargo hold of a 19th-century ship, the sound effects, the exquisitely crafted tropical drinks — the effect was magical, unique and worth the price tag. Fast-forward almost a decade, and there are a number of bars in town that provide the same kind of multisensory experience. But UnderTow is still doing it and doing it well, including at its second location at Gilbert’s Agritopia. It’s still fun to look at the scenery through the “portholes,” and the drink menu continues to offer a thrilling mix of tiki classics and modern interpretations of the genre. UnderTow continues to be the Valley’s premier tiki bar.
