Yesterday, we brought you a story about residents in the north Phoenix neighborhood of Moon Valley trying to fight a Goodwill store from opening nearby.
“This is a great opportunity to let the city know we don’t appreciate what they have done to us and to demand that they do whatever it takes to stop the store in our neighborhood from ever opening,” said an e-mail from former Republican Congressman John Shadegg, which was circulated amongst neighborhood residents.

An AJ’s Fine Foods store used to be in the location, and the freak-out from some people came after they found out a Goodwill store would be taking its place.
“If Goodwill moves into Moon Valley, the shops, restaurants, and services that our community wants and needs, will close up or relocate,” one Moon Valley resident said. “They will be replaced by low end retail that is not appropriate for our neighborhood.”
