Ben Quayle, son of former Vice President Dan Quayle, is rumored to be considering a run for Congress.

Quayle, a Scottsdale-based attorney, is believed to have hired a campaign manager to lay the groundwork for a run at the congressional seat currently held by John Shadegg.

As far as we can tell, he has yet to take any of the legal steps necessary to make him a candidate -- like forming an exploratory committee -- but the idea of the younger Quayle making his first political flight in a race with no incumbent seems to make sense.

We called Quayle when we caught wind of this latest piece of GOP gossip, but he hasn't gotten back to us. We'll let you know if that happens.

Earlier this month, Shadegg, a Republican, announced that he would not seek re-election, and since his announcement, there has been no shortage of potential Republican candidates.

So far, some of the possible GOP candidates expressing interest are rookie politician and Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker, who bailed on his campaign for governor to announce a run for Shadegg's seat, Tom Smith, founder of the TASER stun-gun company, and Senators Jim Waring and Pam Gorman.

Before Shadegg's announcement, Waring had been considering a run for state Treasurer, but like Parker, once the Congressional seat opened up, he heard opportunity bangin' on the door and answered it.

Quayle was accepted to the Arizona Bar Association in January 2009 and previously was named to the California and New York bars.

His father, Dan Quayle served as vice president under George H.W. Bush after a Congressional career of his own. He now lives in Paradise Valley.
