Authorities continue to search for a U.S. Marine reported missing on Monday.

Military officials initially thought 22-year-old Jonathan Kyle Ferguson's disappearance was an unauthorized absence, but now believe it's a missing person case.

Ferguson was last seen at an IHOP restaurant in Yuma about 3:30 a.m. Monday.

Search and rescue crews have conducted air and ground searches in northwest Yuma close to the Colorado River. Border agents with canines have aided in the search.

Ferguson has been in the military since 2007. He recently returned from a seven-month deployment to Afghanistan.

Ferguson's family in West Monroe, Louisiana, tell KPHO he's close to finishing his training and they're adamant that he hasn't gone AWOL.

Anyone with information as to Ferguson's whereabouts are asked to call the he Yuma Naval Criminal Investigative Service at 928-269-2305.
