When District American Kitchen first opened, one of my best pals checked it out and sent me some really good intel about the restaurant: Try the shrimp po'boy sliders.
I'm glad I did. That dish was on the original menu, and it still remains today, served as a small plate in the main dining room and also as a regular offering on the bar menu. I'll have these babies at lunch with a salad, or at happy hour with a pint of beer.
These two tiny sandwiches are filled with plump local shrimp (that's right, they're Desert Sweet Shrimp), some spicy local Andouille sausage (from Schreiner's), tomato, and a gob of creamy celery root slaw. Given the dining options downtown, this is one of the most novel, tasty bites around.
