Striking the perfect combination is rare. Phoenix's best breakfast and brunch restaurants all offer a rendition of this morning staple, but some spots get it just right.
Recipe and review website Love Food compiled a list of the best breakfast sandwiches across the country. Their team used a combination of user reviews, awards, accolades and first-hand experience to compile the list.
In Arizona, two Valley restaurants tied for the top spot.
Buttered Up Bakery
13802 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale2628 W. Birchwood Circle, Mesa Longtime fans of Buttered Up Bakery may remember it as Squarz Pies, a company that started in 2011 and brought delicious pastries to Valley farmers markets. Over the years, they opened brick-and-mortar bakeries and cafes and rebranded as Buttered Up. Now, customers can find the delectable baked goods at locations in Scottsdale and Mesa.
On the Love Food list, Buttered Up Bakery was recognized for its avocado, egg and Parmesan croissant.
According to Love Food, the sandwich "encases fluffy scrambled eggs, smashed avocado, garlic aioli, and toasted Parmesan in a freshly baked pastry. Plus, you can customize it with bacon, pesto, or sun-dried tomatoes."
The bakery gets creative with its croissants, also using them in its Croissant French Toast and Croissant Pizza.
Worth Takeaway
218 W. Main St., Mesa Mesa staple Worth Takeaway is known for its exceptional sandwiches, no matter the time of day. But if you stop by in the morning, make sure to try the Breakfast Sammy. This sandwich tied for the top spot in Arizona."This much-loved sandwich shop knows a thing or two about hearty dishes – and its delectable Breakfast Sammy is too good to miss," Love Food wrote. "It features a fried egg, white Cheddar, and sriracha aioli, all sandwiched inside a soft brioche bun. Brought an appetite? You can add in avocado, bacon, ham, or sriracha-candied bacon to make it extra indulgent."
Not only is Worth a great spot to stop by for a sandwich, it's a comfortable space to enjoy good company. While the name may hint at taking your sandwich to-go, and that certainly is an option, many customers linger over tasty bites, coffee and cocktails. The welcoming cafe and its friendly service lead customers to become regulars, just as the owners intended.
According to Worth's website, "We want to be the Cheers of sandwiches."
Almost 10 years in, Worth is just that.
