There aren't a lot of great Korean restaurants in Phoenix right now. If you're on the west side, you have Cafe Ga Hyang. If you're on the east side, you have Chodang and Chodang has soft tofu soup.

Sure, Chodang's bibimbap is stellar and the BBQ short ribs are moist and flavorful, but if you're going to get just one thing from Chodang, it's got to be the soft tofu soup. Served in a hot black earthen bowl, the bubbling spicy red broth is full of silken tofu and scallions. From there you can add seafood, kimchi, beef, and more.

However, the best part of this dish is the addition of a raw egg to the soup. Cracked and dropped in tableside, the egg poaches perfectly in a matter of minutes in the broth. Part dinner, part show, it's delicious and exciting and everything you could ask for in a Korean dish.
