There is nothing quite like Opening Day for baseball enthusiasts and while this year the Arizona Diamondbacks kicked off their season in Australia it didn't stop thousands of fans from selling out last night's game at Chase Field where they hosted the San Francisco Giants. Before the game first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and outfielder Gerardo Parra were presented with gold glove awards. Goldschmidt who led the National League in home runs and finished second in the MVP voting was also presented with the Silver Slugger award. Unfortunately, when it was time to play ball the Diamondbacks blew a 4-run lead to fall to 0-3 on the season. Pitcher Brandon McCarthy had a solid outing before Oliver Perez stepped in relief and gave up three hits. Brad Ziegler relieved Perez and then gave up a single before walking Giants catcher Buster Posey with the bases loaded. Posey would eventually homer off new closer Addison Reed in the top of the 9th. Arizona catcher Miguel Montero homered in the bottom of the 9th but the rally came to a halt when A.J Pollock popped out to end the game. Pollock has started the season 0 for 13 and was 0 for 6 with four strikeouts in last night's 9-8 loss.
