Few events in the Valley are as colorfully chaotic and bizarrely entertaining as the annual Phoenix Idiotarod, a gonzo event through the city’s arts district and downtown area that’s an urban shopping cart race, bar crawl, and fringe culture free-for-all rolled into one.

The tenth annual version of the event, which took place on Saturday, February 20, was certainly no exception. Like with previous editions of the Phoenix Idiotarod, it involved teams of costumed participants racing around with colorfully decorated shopping carts inspired by a particular pop cultural themes and hitting up various checkpoints at nearby bars and parks to compete in various challenges along the way.
