Virginia Martinez's Airport Scene

Virginia Martinez's Airport Scene
Virginia Martinez

Artist: Virginia Martinez

 Medium: chromogenic print

Upon visiting Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport you are surrounded by all things Arizona. You are guaranteed to see Hispanic and Native American art to magnets and coffee mugs with the states symbolic images emblazed on them. The airport's windows frame scenic views of the Phoenix desert landscape. As the sun sets, a mystical ambiance is generated from the combination of the sun's heat and its warm glow, creating a mirage from the vantage point of a comfortable and temperature controlled terminal. For me, living in Phoenix is about experiencing southwestern cultures, the heat, and being surrounded by its alluring landscape.

The countdown to Best of Phoenix continues!
Last year, we profiled 100 Creatives who made a mark on the local arts scene. This year, we'll have 100 creative representations of Phoenix.  No scope or requirement on medium or size -- we'll include photography, painting, sculpture, video, installation, literary, and more.
