Cycle: The First Readers' Ride

You'd better have your chain lubed and tubes pumped because the first Jackalope Ranch Readers' Trail Ride is here. The Ranch's accountants have tabulated all of the votes and handed off the final results in a tightly guarded briefcase.

Your selection for this inaugural Readers' Ride is ... the Arcadia Loop. That's right, the First Readers' Ride is the first route featured in Cycle.

Please join us at 10 a.m. this Sunday, March 20 for an easy swing through Arcadia with the obligatory stop at Le Grande Orange for cookies or whatever. The ride will begin at G.R. Herberger Park, just east of 56th Street on Indian School Road.

For those with hearty ambitions and strong legs, we will include the final climb up the south slope of Camelback Mountain along 56th Street at the end of the ride.

Please plan on two hours for this 13-plus mile ride and come prepped with gear, sunscreen and water. While this will not be any kind of race, it certainly is a chance to impress, so groom up those antlers and get ready to ride.

Trip Distance: 13.3 miles
Trip Duration: 2 hours at an easy/moderate pace
Difficulty: Easy - good for riders of all ages
Route Map:

Bike Rental: Bike Barn (4112 N. 36th Street) has bikes of all kinds available for rental starting at $30 for a four hour rental. The store is near the southwest corner of the route loop, so feel free to begin and end your ride at the store.
