New business openings seem to come in waves. Recently, Phoenix has welcomed a gaggle of elevated Indian restaurants. And now, just as back-to-school season gets underway, a new class of coffee shops is brewing across the Valley.
Some are additional locations of local chains, bringing their coffees to new neighborhoods. Others are brand new to town. Here are five new coffee shops that are now brewing, plus two more opening soon, around Phoenix.
Sahara Coffee
610 E. Bell Road, #106
In late July, Sahara Coffee welcomed its first customers on Bell Road. The Palestinian coffee shop is open all day, serving unique drinks from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., perfect for late-night study sessions or catching up with friends. The menu includes Turkish-style coffee, made in copper pots slowly moved through piping hot sand. Matcha drinks and creative iced lattes are also on the menu, topped with tiramisu cold foam or maple whip. The neutral-toned cafe has plenty of cozy corners to sip a coffee and snack on za’aatar flatbread or baklava.
Showtime Cafe
2431 E. Van Buren St.
A new hub for arts, film and coffee opened on Van Buren Street just west of downtown Phoenix on August 1. Showtime Cafe operates out of There Space, a screen printing studio and venue in conjunction with Showtime, a Phoenix film club. Many of the drink names are inspired by the film industry, such as the strawberry and rhubarb S. Coppola and the Del Toro with star anise, clove, cinnamon and piloncillo. Matcha drinks, Mexican sodas and ginger beer are also available. Customers can sip their lattes in the industrial, red-brick warehouse space filled with colorful furniture and art.

Coming soon: 5090 40th St.
On August 8, Press Coffee’s latest cafe opened in CityNorth as part of the new Sprouts headquarters campus. Many local locations of the health-forward grocery store house a Press Coffee. But at CityNorth, the new cafe is next door in the headquarters office building, where it doubles as an amenity for Sprouts corporate employees and a neighborhood coffee shop open to the public.
Another new Press is also in the works. The local chain plans to open an Arcadia store inside the Camelview office building on Sept. 12. This location will be the chain’s 21st coffee shop in the Valley.
Daydreamer Coffee
1020 E. Apache Blvd., Tempe
Daydreamer Coffee operates an airy, aesthetic cafe in downtown Phoenix at the Moontower on Third Street. On Wednesday, the company brought its chic design and creative coffee drinks to Tempe. The new cafe is located on the ground floor of the Rambler apartment complex and is open to residents and the public. The menu includes signature drinks such as a cinnamon bun latte and a brown sugar and blackberry latte topped with lavender cold foam. Daydreamer has locations in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Ohio and Texas.
