Drug smugglers trying to get weed across the U.S./Mexico border are getting even more creative than simply loading watermelon trucks with marijuana -- National Guard troops found a catapult a drug cartel's using to launch bundles of marijuana over the border fence.

National Guard troops near the Naco Border Patrol Station watched on video surveillance as several people on the Mexican side of the border loaded a catapult with weed about 80 miles south of Tucson on Friday night.

According to KVOA, Border Patrol agents and National Guard troops contacted Mexican authorities who disrupted the launching.

The smugglers were able to avoid capture, but Mexican authorities located about 45 pounds of weed near the launch site.
