Former President Bill Clinton visited this Phoenix Mexican restaurant

Following Tim Walz's recent visit to Otro Cafe, Clinton was the latest politician to grab a bite in Phoenix.

Thanks to Arizona's importance as a swing state in the upcoming presidential election, Phoenix has become a popular spot for political visits. The Valley has seen multiple rallies and speeches from Vice President Kamala Harris on her quest to become president and members of her party have stopped by to encourage voters.

While in town, these politicians have to eat. And the Democratic presidential campaign has made a point of visiting local restaurants all around Phoenix. The latest was former President Bill Clinton, who stopped by Poncho's Mexican Food & Cantina on Wednesday.

It was the second time Clinton has visited the longstanding restaurant, which features a mural of him painted inside. Clinton initially dined at Poncho's on July 7, 1999.

Following his visit this week, the restaurant's owners shared photos on social media with the former president posting with his mural along with staff.

"We are proud to welcome back our dear friend after 25 years!" Poncho's posted online.

Presidential visits

Clinton's visit is the latest in a string of meals enjoyed by politicians in Phoenix. Vice presidential nominee Tim Walz and Harris' husband and the second gentleman Doug Emhoff stopped by Otro Cafe in uptown Phoenix for pastries on Oct. 9. There was some hubbub online about whether the duo paid for their meal. The restaurant's staff, however, confirmed that the campaign's staff did pay and no food was given out for free.

Harris has also recently made stops at Phoenix restaurants. She visited Grand Avenue's Bacanora for a closed event where she reportedly recorded digital content. In August, she and Walz made a more public appearance at Cocina Adamex to meet staff, shake hands and pick up tamales.

During that Valley visit, Walz also stopped by Stoop Kid for a bagel sandwich with Spam. And earlier in the campaign cycle, while President Joe Biden was still at the top of the Democratic ticket, he visited South Phoenix restaurant El Portal.

On the other side of the political aisle, the Republican presidential campaign has made fewer local stops. On Tuesday, Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance dined at Delicias Mexican Grill in Tucson.

With less than two weeks left until Election Day, where will the politicians eat next?
