The Nile Theater Is Celebrating Its 6th Anniversary With a Vegan Bash

For six years, The Nile Theater in Mesa has served punk and hardcore music with a side of coffee and vegan eats. On Saturday, September 4, all those components will converge in the venue’s birthday bash.

From 6 to 8 p.m., something will be going on around every part of The Nile. There will be a food court in the alley, yoga inside the theater, and a vegan market in the shop.

Naked Fig Soap Co., Get Juiced, Raul’s Cocina, and Fluffy Vegans will have wares on display at the market while DJ Mygodcomplex provides music. Yoga classes take place in the theater at 6:30 and 8 p.m.

The food court in the alley will be filled with plant-based purveyors including Flavors Food Truck, Churro Go Nutz, Doomrider Kitchen, Hot Sauce + Peppers, Shwang’s, Thai Vegan Delights, Houldon’s Rise Above, and Yumaf.

Nile owner Michelle Donovan says she’s most looking forward to the food. “I am excited to eat all the goodies from our friends who will be coming out to cook,” she says. “Doomriders has some amazing fried chicken they will be debuting that belongs in my belly.”

Over the past six years, The Nile Theater has undergone extensive exterior renovations, become a certified Green Business, made the shift from being a vegetarian venue to being vegan, launched a vegan hot dog cart, and converted a horse trailer into a coffee shop during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I think the next goal is to have the theater officially designated a historic landmark,” Donovan says. “After that, I just want to take a minute to enjoy where things are now.”
