It seemed to happen when no one was looking, but all of a sudden, Australia has turned into a hotbed of electronic music. Credit Cut Copy's brilliant 2004 album, Bright Like Neon Love, for luring the eyes and hears of music fans Down Under. The attention hasn't hurt Sydney electronic rock trio Art vs. Science one bit. The band released its debut album, The Experiment, in February after the success of a few raucous — albeit cheeky — EPs. "Parlez Vous Francais?," from the band's eponymous EP, is a perfect testament to the bizarre dichotomy within Art vs. Science. The song features lyrics requesting a young lady to kindly remove her shirt — in French, mind you — over a frenetic drumbeat and fuzzed-out guitars. "Parlez Vous Francais?" exists only to let us know that Art vs. Science plays loud, riotous electronic music and to show off the exploits of lead singer Dan Mac's French skills — yet the song is perhaps the band's best-known track. The band may be defined by its irreverence, but the trio backs it up with energetic live shows befitting the not-so-subtle style of its music.
