Local bass-and-drums duo Scattered Melodies loves helping locals so much the project wrote a song called "Community Service" with collaborator Ruca. Appropriately they'll be playing it with Ruca frontwoman Haley Griagaitis during their Back-to-School Book Drive this Saturday, September 21 at Gilbert's Bergies Coffee Roast House.
"The song was inspired by our events we put together to give back to our community," Scattered Melodies drummer Josh Montag says, referencing the project's past donation drive shows that have yielded a car full of clothes and more than 300 pounds of food. "We are all thankful for our musical talents and enjoy using them to bring people together to give back. The message of the song is to be more involved with the people you share a city, town or state with."
Scattered Melodies is doing their part to be more involved themselves by hooking up with a variety of local musicians for their albums. Their debut disc, A Collective Agreement, featured more than a dozen singers and guitarists throughout the jam/rock/indie tracks, and the duo is already working on a follow-up, on which "Community Service" will be featured.
This weekend's show will feature a ton of new music, including performances by singers Anamieke Quinn, Parker Jones and Laura Hamlin.
Local band The Broken Rhodes, which Jones fronts, opens the show, which starts at 6 p.m. Check out a live performance of the track below, and for more info on the event, go here.
