All About Books and Comics Hosts a Celebration of the First Gay Comic Book Wedding

Not another one, I thought. I'd already been to quite a few wedding receptions, especially recently. That just comes with being 30 and unmarried.

But there was the invitation:

You Are Cordially Invited to the Wedding Reception of Jean-Paul "Northstar" Beaubier and Kyle Jinadu who will be married in Astonishing X-men #51!

Date: Wed. June 20th Time: 10 am to 8 pm Location: All About Books and Comics 5060 N. Central Avenue Attire: Wedding Attire (or just wear a tie over your T-shirt)

But I'd never been to a "gay wedding" before, and they did make a point to invite me. I should probably go, right? Who am I kidding? Of course I'll go! I was there for Cyclops and Jean Grey, Professor X and Lilandra, not to mention Black Panther and Storm's wedding reception.

It would be rude of me not to go, but then again I don't really know Northstar all that well.

To quote my friend Jason Woodbury, "Oh yes. The gentleman from Alpha Flight." Though originally a member of Alpha Flight, an on-again off-again team of Canadian super-humans, Northstar is now an active member of the X-Men.

As a child of the atom, Northstar routinely fights against mutant bigotry, as he was born a mutant, being the most feared minority group in the Universe. Through this same genetic mutation, Northstar gained a variety of super-human powers, which he puts to use for the betterment of both mutant and mankind.

He's also one of the first openly gay superheroes, and today will be joined in matrimony by his partner, Kyle Jinadu. I guess I do know more than I thought! Isn't that always the case?

If everyone wasn't already talking about their progressive union, they will certainly be talking about it today! Expect a who's who of super-heroes and mutants, Americans and Canadians, not to mention some unexpected guests that may even surprise me!

Hopefully, Northstar and Kyle's path to wedded bliss will be a smooth one. Unless of course danger is waiting for them at the altar... I guess we'll just have to wait and find out! Finally, a mutant registration we can all get behind.
