Forks up, Phoenix! Chow Bella and Roosevelt Row present the sixth annual Pie Social at 2 on Saturday, November 21, at the Bioscience High School at 512 East Pierce Street in Phoenix. We’ve got an all-star lineup of bakers making pies for you to taste, and from now till Pie Social, we’ll introduce them to you, one by one, through pie charts designed by each chef to capture his or her persona as a baker.Today: Country and Sergio Velador of Super Chunk Sweets and Treats
If you’ve ever stepped foot inside Super Chunk Sweets and Treats in Scottsdale, then you already know that owners Country and Sergio Velador like to keep things fun. Their colorful candy shop offers everything from hand-pulled taffy to whimsical miniature birthday cakes covered in rainbow sprinkles and much of the sweet stock is made with local ingredients including artisan sugars, local honey, and mesquite flour. The couple brings years of experience in the restaurant business to the table — as well as years of Pie Social practice to this year’s competition.
