70: La Potence at Le Chalet
Holy moly, stop me from drooling all over the keyboard.
I got a stellar first impression when I visited Glendale's new Le Chalet and tried the house specialty, a flambeed beef dish called La Potence and nicknamed The Hanging Man.
This thing was one of the most delicious dishes I've eaten so far this year -- honestly, better than some of the steaks I've had at full-blown steakhouses (Le Chalet is more well-rounded, with fondue and crepes and whatnot), and certainly more memorable.
Chef-owner Anthony Ferre brings out a spiked metal cylinder laden with chunks of beef and a piece of pineapple on top. With a splash of whisky and a flash of fire, he sizzles it right alongside your table, letting the juices drip over a pile of rice pilaf. When the show is over, you get to dip the juicy meat in a variety of sauces.
It's as delicious as it is fun.
