Punk-rock summer camp strolled through the Valley on Thursday, August 4, as the Vans Warped Tour took over the Phoenix Event Complex. There was a great variety of metal, punk, hip-hop, rock n' roll, and fans of all ages who weren't scared of summer temperatures. While old-school punk veterans like Less Than Jake and The Vandals had fun sets that got the crowd dancing, the real eye-opening set came from youngsters Palaye Royal, who had more attitude than any other band. Though they played the small Full Sail stage, they brought the raw energy of Iggy-Pop-meets-early-Rolling-Stones and had teenage girls in a frenzy. Goth rockers Motionless in White also had a strong outing, and Crown the Empire brought the metal that made you hate your parents again. Photos by
