For craft beer drinkers, adding those flavors to fall brews can be revered or reviled. But, no matter which side of that fence you fall on, one of the first signs that harvest drinking season is upon the Valley is here. O.H.S.O. Brewery’s Great Pumpkin Beer Day kicks off today at 11 a.m.
The brewpub’s annual event returns this year with five locations tapping an array of beers infused with the flavors of pumpkin and spice. The O.H.S.O. beer menus will vary at its locations in Arcadia, Paradise Valley, Sunnyslope, Gilbert and Surprise.
The beer lineups include local and national beer selections, along with O.H.S.O.’s own craft brews. Beers are limited and served until each keg is kicked. Here’s what’s on tap at each spot.
O.H.S.O.’s flagship location off Indian School Road will have the largest selection of pumpkin beers, with 13 on tap. Among them are three O.H.S.O. brews plus guest-brewed sips. PSL Noir is a lager made with pumpkin spice black tea. Pumpkin Up the Haze is a gluten-reduced hazy IPA brewed with ginger and cardamom. And, Gourd of the Dark Ages is a pumpkin and cinnamon-spiced coffee stout. Local guest selections include Roses by the Stairs’ All the Fall Things pumpkin amber ale and Six Byrd Cider Co.’s Pumpkin Pie a la Mode cider. Great Divide Brewing Co.’s Pumpkin Ale and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery’s Punkin Ale are among the out-of-state taps.
The next largest tap list is at O.H.S.O.’s downtown Gilbert brewpub. Among the dozen taps are four made by O.H.S.O., including its Another Pumpkin Porter and Pumpkin Dunkel. Other Arizona-brewed beers available include Historic Brewing Co.’s Pumpkin Piehole Porter and Four Peaks Brewing Co.’s Double Pumpkin Porter. The out-of-state sippers that will be served in Gilbert include Rogue Ales’ Pumpkin Patch Ale and Mother Earth Brewing Co.s’ Cali Screamin’, a riff on its popular cream ale made with pumpkin puree and baking spices.
At the brewery’s Paradise Valley outpost, located near Tatum and Shea boulevards, O.H.S.O. will tap a pumpkin dunkel and baltic porter. Other locally crafted pumpkin brews include Peaceful Pumpkin, a spiced pumpkin beer served with a sugar and cinnamon rim from Lake Havasu City’s Mudshark Brewing Co. New Belgium Brewing Co.’s spicy Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin, Prairie Artisan Ales sour Pumpkin Pie Treat and Pumpkin Patch Kittens, a New England IPA made with pumpkin, spices and vanilla from Connecticut brewer Fat Orange Cat Brew Co. Also being tapped today at the Paradise Valley location is a hazy IPA brewed in collaboration with the Phoenix nonprofit Musically Fed, which recovers food from live events to feed those in need. O.H.S.O. will donate $1 from every pint to Musically Fed.
The tap list at O.H.S.O. Sunnyslope includes the brewery’s Pumpkin Up the Haze, Gourd of the Dark Ages, pumpkin dunkel and its baltic pumpkin porter. The Sunnyslope brewpub, located on Central Avenue near Butler Drive, will also serve the locally made Six Byrd and Mudshark pumpkin quaffs.
Finally, O.H.S.O.’s Surprise brewpub will offer its pumpkin-ified hazy IPA, dunkel, porter and coffee stout. Grand Canyon Brewing Co.’s porter Pumpkin Springs and Mudshark’s Peaceful Pumpkin round out local offerings, along with Oregon-based Rogue Ales Pumpkin Patch Ale.
