One of the most anticipated films of 2025 is "28 Years Later," Danny Boyle's follow-up to his modern horror classic, "28 Days Later," and its not-bad sequel, "28 Weeks Later." (That one was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.)
To celebrate, Harkins Theatres is hosting a screening party at two of its metro Phoenix locations: Tempe Marketplace 16, 2000 E. Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe; and Arrowhead Fountains 18, 16046 N. Arrowhead Fountain Center Drive, Peoria.
Showtimes are 6, 6:30 and 7 p.m. on Friday, June 20, in Tempe; and 5 p.m. Saturday, June 21, in Peoria.
Your $24 ticket ($25.85 with fees) gets you a ticket to the film; a medium popcorn; a cocktail, mocktail or soft drink; themed photo ops; and a mini movie poster.
"28 Years Later" reunites Boyle with Alex Garland, who wrote the original film. According to the synopsis on the Sony Pictures website, "It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amid the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well."
The film stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O'Connell, Alfie Williams and Ralph Fiennes.
Boyle has confirmed that "28 Years Later" will have two sequels; "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple" will be released in early 2026 and feature a cameo by Cillian Murphy, the star of the original 2002 film.
