While heavy metal is a lifestyle to some people, to many it's just a fashion statement. Take Gossip Girl Taylor Momsen of the Pretty Reckless, for example. She dresses like a hooker, flips people off, and publicly talks about her sexuality in the most awkward ways possible.
That's not called metal; that's called being a 17-year old that grew up with liberal parents. Her music is pop rock at best, but she sports an Iron Maiden shirt in an interview, and all of the sudden she's metal? I don't think so -- though I will give her props for her killer shoes.
There's a wide range of talented, beautiful chicks in the world of rock and metal--but the list becomes much narrower when the focus is truly raw talent and performance value. And a lot of these chicks have a knack for intimidating guys a bit as well, which you gotta love. We don't get much respect in the testosterone-drenched world of hard rock.
So, in homage to my sisters that rock, here's my list of the hottest chicks in metal. Don't be scurred, dudes. It's only pussy.
Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy
Vocalist and manager of Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy; influenced by Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Chuck Billy of Testament, and Jeff Walker of Carcass. She's a voice on Metalocalypse, anarchist, Atheist, and one of the few successful female metal singers to use growling as her primary singing style (see also: Grace Perry of Landmine Marathon).
Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey of Butcher Babies
Butcher Babies features two leading ladies that terrorize the stage topless and covered in blood, Carrie-style. Oh, and they actually know how to sing and play guitar. Enough said.
These girls, as they say, are faster than you can say heavy fucking metal, undisuputed darlings of the Sunset Strip.
Emma Anzai from the Sick Puppies.
Has killer energy on stage, started playing bass at 17, oozes sex appeal and her dream opening act is Silverchair.
Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil This lead singer of Italian gothic metal band Lacuna Coil was an advice columnist in the popular rock magazine Revolver alongside Vinnie Paul, and was featured in Megadeth's "A Tout le Monde (Set Me Free)" among several other heavy hits.
Alissa White-Gluz from The Agonist
The occasional hot export out of Canada is to be expected. Case in point: The Agonist's vocalist, who cites Pantera as an influence and would probably think that this story is offensive -- she recently won the World's Sexiest Vegetarian by PETA 2.
Lzzy Hale from Halestorm
Since they were just kids, Elizabeth "Lzzy" Hale and her brother Arejay have been jamming out. Now the band is known for incessant touring, averaging around 250 shows a year. Look out for Halestorm's new album dropping this album, and check out the album's single "Love Bites (So Do I)"
Maria Brink from In This Moment
Brink's known for ear-piercing screams and haunting melodic vocals, not to mention her penchant for donning Alice In Wonderland outfits on stage. Her charisma is undeniable on stage, as is the sexiness of her various tattoos, huge blue eyes, and soft speaking voice.
Alexia and Anissa Rodriguez from Eyes Set To Kill
The Valley's own Eyes Set To Kill offers quite the pair of killer chicks to the heavy metal world. Alexia and Anissa are young, but what they lack in age they make up for in music experience and lyrical poetry. And sex kitten eyes.
Syd Duran from Valora
Syd rips through the tracks on rock band Valora's debut album with crazy conviction and a range of octaves. Keep an eye out for 2012's I Waited for You, a five-part graphic novel treatment.
Simone Simmons from Epica
The Dutch symphonic band with five albums is known for the vocals and growls of Simon Simmons and Mark Janson, the group's main songwriters. While Epica may not be classified as super heavy or brutal, the classical influences mixed with metal can't be denied in this group.
