From now until we publish the 2016 edition of Best of Phoenix, New Times is naming 100 Tastemakers — members of our local culinary community who help shape the way we eat, drink, and think about food in Phoenix. Some you'll know, and for others, it'll be a first introduction, but each person on our list deserves a nod for helping make our city so delicious. Oh, and while you're here, be sure to check out our list of 100 Creatives.

41. ET Rivera of Tres Leches Cafe

Earlier this year we introduced you to Tres Leches Cafe, the "Mexican Starbucks of your dreams," and today we get to know the man behind the espresso machine, ET Rivera.

Rivera started "messing around with coffee" in 2014 and stumbled upon a tres leches recipe, which inspired him to come up with new concept for the Phoenix coffee scene. "I challenged myself by making the most unique and complex latte flavors to grab the attention of your eyes and tongue," Rivera says. He came up with flavors including Cafe Horchata, Tres Aztecas, Cafe Churro, and OG Tres Leches, to name a few. "The genuine excitement on everyone's faces during the tasting of the drinks is what motivated me to keep pushing to get started," he says.

He started selling coffee on the weekends out of his house, until he moved into the current Tres Leches space inside Scott's Generations deli. The coffee shop has been open there for more than a year.

Today, Rivera dishes on his inspiration and go-to place for coffee

My go to place for coffee in Phoenix is Lola Coffee Bar.

The best-kept secret in Phoenix is Gus's New York Pizza, 24-hour pizza in Tempe.

My biggest inspiration is chef Silvana of Barrio Cafe.

Five years ago I was 28 and never thought I'd be 33.

Phoenix could use more tacos and less vatos.
