The odd thing about Thanksgiving is how it’s centered on uninspiring food. We don’t eat turkey, cranberry sauce, or pumpkin pie after December for a good reason: they all kind of suck. In spite of that, you’ll likely spend Thursday, November 24, gorging yourself on food that it wouldn’t even occur to you to eat if there weren’t a crappy parade on TV. That’s what makes gaining weight from Thanksgiving so bad—you don’t even get to have fun getting fat.

You probably can’t change your family’s menu, but if you want to cut the guilt out of the feast you might consider entering the Turkey Day 5K at the Wesley Bolin Plaza. The run, which starts at 8 a.m., is designed to give even the most slothful among us a chance to start the day off right.
