17. Foie Gras Bread Pudding from Barrelhouse American Kitchen & Cocktails

Chandler has one of the Valley's most under-appreciated culinary gems in Barrelhouse American Kitchen & Cocktails. If you haven't been there yet, you really do have to go. The inventive spirit of both the kitchen and the bar shines through in unique and flavorful dishes and drinks that put new spins on old favorites.
We almost gave this one to Barrelhouse's white truffle mac and cheese, which comes with roasted brussels sprouts, bacon, and a crunchy bread crumb topping, until owner Kenta Usuzawa pointed out a brand new menu item: the foie gras bread pudding. Yes, foie gras bread pudding.
Combining the stick-to-your ribs heartiness of a savory bread pudding with earthy herbs and mushrooms and, of course, rich foie gras, this little dish is definitely sharable, even though it might not look like it. The creamy sage sauce and mirepoix add a lot of familiar, comforting, homey flavors to the dish, but let's be real-- our moms definitely weren't cooking with foie gras. Split between diners, this dish is a great way to kick off a meal in the most luxurious way possible. Treat yourself.
