ASU to Host Walking Dead Discussion of Zombies and Taxes

If you're sick of the typical political debate about sequester this and debt ceiling that, join ASU's Center for Science and the Imagination, along with the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, for a showing of AMC's hit zombie series The Walking Dead on Thursday, August 29, in Tempe. Part of the ongoing Science Fiction TV Dinner series, the airing and accompanying meal will be followed by a unique discussion regarding taxation and the recession in the face of a zombie apocalypse.

Adam Chodorow, an ASU professor and expert on tax law, recently wrote about death, taxes, and zombies in a paper straightforwardly named "Death and Taxes and Zombies." He will be discussing his points at the event. Chodorow will be joined by Ed Finn of the ASU CSI who will talk about why films like George Romero's Dawn of the Dead continue to strike fear into the hearts of moviegoers and what it is about zombies that has made them such an invasive mainstay in popular culture.

Past events in this series include a truth-seeking panel on The X-Files at the Cronkite Journalism School and a Doctor Who-centric discussion of time machines and the Elizabethan era at the College of Liberal Arts.

The event, which takes place at Armstrong Hall near McAllister Avenue and Lemon Street on the main Tempe campus, runs from 6:15 until 8 p.m. The dinner, show, and discussion are all free with confirmed RSVP.
