If this seasons square-toed ballet flats and romantic, flowing dresses are any indication, the worlds of ballet and fashion are colliding.
Ballet Arizona Artistic Director Ib Andersen merges couture and classical ballet in a new piece titled Symphonie Classique, part of the Modern Masters showcase the dance company is presenting through Sunday, March 27 at the Orpheum Theatre. Tony Awardwinning designer Martin Pakledinaz created couture tutus for Andersens ballet that cost twice as much as the average dance skirt.
The company will also revisit Christopher Wheeldons Polyphonia, which premiered in Phoenix in 2009, and present a film-inspired dance created by Alejandro Cerrudo.
