Woodlands Vegetarian South Indian Kitchen

Serving an authentic taste of South India in the Valley is Woodlands, an unassuming place tucked into a strip mall in Chandler. Don't let the Styrofoam plates and plastic utensils fool you into thinking poorly of the restaurant's offerings. The flavors will knock you on your ass, and the spices will clear out your sinuses in no time. Everything on the menu is vegetarian, but once you try a taste, you won't miss the meat at all. To discover how insane heat and powerful flavor can coexist in a dish, try the rasam soup, a bowl of fire balanced with lentils and tamarind. Other South Indian specialties include iddly (steamed rice and lentil cakes) and vadai (crispy golden deep-fried patties with lentil and ginger), both great ways to enjoy the chutney bar's selection. Or, split a dosa between a few friends. The paper thin rice and lentil crepes can be filled with anything you want: potatoes, onions, tomato gravy, mint chutney, paneer cheese, vegetables, and more. No matter what you order, it'll make you want to return again and again to try everything on the menu. Read our review.
