The brand new Roosevelt Row bar Killer Whale Sex Club welcomed in the masses on Saturday, March 7, during its first weekend in business. The bizarrely named drinkery, which is located at the corner of Sixth and Roosevelt streets, features a darkened-yet-stylish interior, risque décor choices (including collages of cutouts from adult magazines), and an arty vibe. However, there isn't one killer whale.

Burgeoning local DJs took their shot at fame and glory on Saturday, February 29, at Aura Nightclub in Tempe during the First Encounters DJ Competition. Mixmasters and selectors like JUR, Good Time Jimmy, Eyechronic, and Ico Soundz each had a 15-minute-long set to impress the judges in hope of winning an opening slot at the Phoenix Lights music festival in April.

Renowned electro-house DJ/producer Destructo took over the sound system with his beats at Sunbar in Tempe on Saturday, February 22. The 90-minute set featured remixes and original tracks and got bodies moving inside the bar and nightclub’s music venue.

The monthly First Friday art walk in downtown Phoenix was a place to see and be seen on February 7. People flocked to Roosevelt Row, Grand Avenue, and elsewhere to check out the art, galleries, vendors, and musicians. There's also plenty of people-watching to be had. Here's who we saw out and about at the event.

The Techno Snobs took over the upstairs Scarlet Lounge at the Monarch Theatre on Friday, January 31, for an evening of fetish thrills and high-energy dance music. Kink-oriented demonstrations took place while DJs and producers including Sueño, Stoneypie, and Hexmaschine blasted genres like techno, bass, and industrial.

Fetish-friendly dance party CUPCAKE! made its long-awaited return on Saturday, January 25, at The Rebel Lounge. Subtitled "Cirque Berserk," the event featured clowns, ringmasters, stilt-walkers, goths, and freaks in attendance. DJs like Betty Blackheart, Self.Destrukt, and Plastic Disease were also present and spun mixes of industrial, bass, and electro.
