Camelback Mountain is one of the best places on earth. From steep summit trails to surreal, stone formations to the camaraderie of fellow hikers, this mountain park has it all. (Except, of course, for good parking.) The two main trails are Echo Canyon on the west side and Cholla Trail on the east. The parking areas are small, and police are merciless ticket-writers to vehicles parked in unauthorized areas near the mountain. The earlier you get there, the better, otherwise you take what you can find. Access Echo's parking lot just east of Tatum Boulevard off McDonald Drive. For Cholla Trail, park along Invergordon Road just north of Camelback, then walk to Cholla Drive and head west to the trailhead. Each trail takes you to the summit in about 1.5 miles, with a 1,200-foot elevation gain. Here are some of the favorite snapshots I've taken of the pink rockpile in recent years to help get you psyched for the trails.
